Taft High School in Woodland Hills and Marshall High School in Silver Lake on Saturday tied in the Super Quiz section of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Academic Decathlon, answering 56 of 60 questions correctly.
In the competition held for high schools outside the Los Angeles school system, West High School from Torrance tied for first with Temple City High School and William S. Hart High School from Santa Clarita, with each squad answering 54 of 60 questions correctly, said Dick Sholseth, who coordinated the competition for the county Office of Education.
The Super Quiz is a key part of the decathlon, a rigorous daylong competition that includes essay writing, interviews and six exams. Results for both decathlons will be announced Nov. 30. The winners will compete in the statewide competition next year.
Taft took second place in last April’s national academic decathlon.
