Robbery Suspect Wounded in Store
VAN NUYS — A liquor store owner shot and wounded a would-be robber who entered his store wearing a mask and carrying a handgun Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The man walked into Allen Liquor in the 16000 block of Vanowen Street shortly after 4:30 p.m. and attempted to rob the owner, Los Angeles Police Sgt. George Wright said.
“Some guy walked into the store with a mask and got a big surprise,” Wright said.
The store owner, who was not charged in the shooting, refused to comment.
The shooting victim, who was not identified, was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center where he underwent surgery, Wright said. He is expected to recover and will be charged with armed robbery, Wright said.
