Maranatha 13, Bell-Jeff 12--Bell-Jeff quarterback Richard Szeptycki brought the Guards to within one point of their first victory with a four-yard touchdown pass to Dave Matekel, but failed to convert a two-point conversion pass with 10 seconds to play, giving host Maranatha (2-3) the victory.
Maranatha’s Serfy Taylor rushed for 103 yards in 11 carries and a touchdown. Taylor also had an interception late in the fourth quarter.
Taylor’s 44-yard touchdown run gave the Minutemen a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Bell-Jeff (0-5) tied it, 6-6, on field goals of 31 and 40 yards by Szeptycki in the second quarter.
Maranatha limited Bell-Jeff to 95 yards.
Maranatha’s 79-yard drive capped by David Mack’s 19-yard touchdown run gave the Minutemen a 13-6 lead.
