Rachel Buenviaje
Brea-Olinda, Sr.
Tennis / No. 1 singles
Buenviaje has been the best female singles player at Brea-Olinda since she was a freshman, but this year she has something extra, Wildcat Coach Mary Krick said. “She’s shown a lot of maturity and her mental game has improved this year,” Krick said. Last week, Buenviaje led the Wildcats to three consecutive victories, rarely losing a game. She only lost two games in each set while winning three sets in victories over Orange and Foothill. Against Glendora, in a match that was decided, 72-69, on games after a 9-9 tie, she won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.
Other notables:
* Nicole Kojima, Edison, won 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, in a 79-71 victory over Los Alamitos and 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, in a 16-2 victory over Huntington Beach.
* Kim Nelson, Canyon, led cross-country team to 27-28 Century League victory over El Modena and ran 17:33, fastest time at Dana Hills Invitational.
