COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Loyola Defeats CSUN in Volleyball
Cal State Northridge fell to 5-8 by dropping a four-game nonconference volleyball match Friday night to Loyola Marymount, 17-15, 15-6, 10-15, 15-6, in Matador Gym.
Aimee Stone had 17 kills and 10 digs, and Missy Clements added 15 kills and four blocks for Northridge. Setter Gretchen Gulbranson had 41 assists for the Matadors.
Loyola Marymount is 10-3.
MEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY
Freshman Nacho Delgado finished second and sophomore Luis Jacobo placed third to lead Glendale to an easy victory at Kenneth Hahn Park in the first Western State Conference meet of the season.
Delgado ran 20 minutes 36 seconds over the four-mile course and Jacobo timed 20:53 to help the Vaqueros to a 30-point total. Canyons was second with 105.
Glendale freshman Auria Roberto won the women’s race in 20:07 over a 5,000-meter course.
Cuesta won the team race with 52 points, followed by defending WSC champion Ventura (63), Moorpark (73) and Glendale (75).
MEN’S SOCCER
San Diego 4, Cal State Northridge 1--The Toreros scored four second-half goals--three during a four-minute span--to beat the Matadors in a first-round match of the San Diego tournament.
Northridge (5-4) held a 1-0 halftime lead on Armando Valdivia’s ninth goal. Guillermo Jara had a goal and three assists for San Diego (6-1).
