SOUTH COUNTY : Warning Sirens to Be Tested Today

Fifty-two sirens will sound twice Wednesday throughout South County during a test of the emergency warning system for San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.
At 10 a.m., all sirens will operate at the same time for five minutes. The second test will happen before noon, again for five minutes. The sirens are located in San Clemente, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano and Camp Pendleton.
In an emergency, the sirens are supposed to advise residents to turn on their radios or television for instructions, according to the Southern California Edison Co.
Edison has sent flyers about the test to homes and businesses within a 10-mile radius of the nuclear plant. Workers also posted flyers in public places such as hotels and beaches.
