FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Pacifica Unable to Handle Fourth-Ranked Huntington Beach
- Share via
Huntington Beach, ranked fourth in Orange County, had too much size, offense, defense and everything else, and the Oilers cruised to a 30-14 nonleague victory over Pacifica Saturday at Bolsa Grande High.
The Oilers (2-0) held Pacifica to two first downs and 13 yards in the first half while building a 16-0 lead, and the Mariners (0-2) never threatened.
Tony Gonzalez, Huntington Beach’s highly touted 6-foot-6, 230-pound tight end, towered over Pacifica’s shorter defensive backs, catching five passes for 98 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback Levi Schuck completed seven of 12 passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns, including a nine-yard scoring pass to Josh Holland.
Oiler fullback Justin Flagg rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown in nine carries, and Schuck scored on a 23-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Trailing, 23-0, Pacifica marched 75 yards in 13 plays, using nearly seven minutes, and scored on a one-yard run by Damien Cook.
Cook finished with 109 yards rushing on 27 carries and also caught two passes for 49 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown from Jeff DePippo on the game’s final play.
