Trade Talks Expected to Meet Deadline: European Community Trade Commissioner Leon Brittan said that after meetings with U.S. officials this week, he believes the global trade talks can be finished by Dec. 15. Brittan said the EC will hold a special meeting next week to deal with France’s objections to the farm trade deal. France, with its large farm population and powerful farmer unions, has said the Blair House agreement to reduce agricultural trade barriers and subsidies could ruin its farmers.
