COUNTYWIDE : Community Colleges Budget Approved
The Coast Community College District Board of Trustees has approved a 1993-94 general fund budget of $132.7 million, up more than $4 million from last year.
The budget allocates $15.9 million to Coastline Community College, headquartered in Fountain Valley; $33.8 million to Golden West College in Huntington Beach; $52.9 million to Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa; and $1.3 million to KOCE-TV on the Golden West College campus.
The district will receive $3.9 million, or 3% of the total budget, in federal funds. Another $41 million--31% of the total--comes from state revenue, and $77.6 million, or 58%, is from local revenue sources.
Last year, the Coast Community College District’s income consisted of 2.3% in federal money, 46% in state funds and 44% in local revenue.
Last year, the district’s adopted budget totaled $128.3 million, but the colleges spent only $119.2 million because college leaders responded to pleas for frugality “with lots of discipline and thoughtful planning,” said Trustee Sherry L. Baum.
The colleges kept the money they saved and applied it to this year’s budget, she said.
