BUENA PARK : Registration to Begin for Flag Football
Youths interested in playing flag football this fall may sign up Tuesday at the city Recreation, Parks and Community Services Department.
Registration will continue through Oct. 1. The fee is $12 for residents and $18 for non-residents.
League play, open to boys and girls, will begin Oct. 23 and last five weeks.
The program is designed to encourage sportsmanship, participation and teamwork. The registration fee includes coaching services, a team T-shirt and participation trophy.
The league is open to children ages 8 to 13. Division A will be for those born in 1980 and 1981, Division B is for those born in 1982 and 1983, and Division C is for those born in 1984 and 1985.
The Recreation Department is also offering a Pee-Wee Flag Football Clinic for children ages 6 and 7. Registration is Tuesday through Oct. 1. The cost is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents.
The clinic, which focuses on the fundamentals of football, begins Oct. 18 and continues for five weeks. A softer football will be used to instruct passing and catching skills. Games are scheduled for the last two weeks of training.
Registration for both programs may be made Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Recreation Department, 8150 Knott Ave.
