A debate on Proposition 174, the school voucher initiative, will be held Friday evening in Thousand Oaks.
Sponsored by the United We Stand organization, the debate will feature Frank Ury of Public Educators for School Choice and attorney Bruce Adelstein arguing for the ballot measure and Ned Hopkins and Lois Tinson from the California Teachers Assn. arguing against it.
If the controversial initiative is approved by voters in November, parents in the state would receive vouchers worth $2,600 redeemable at public, private and parochial schools.
The debate, which cost $2, will start at 7 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1900 Hillcrest Drive.
