* Your article “Clinton Helps Sell Saudis on Jet Deal Worth $6 Billion” (Aug. 20) quotes King Fahd as saying to President Clinton, “We are certainly going to buy American, we are grateful for what the United States did in the Gulf War.”
The headline should have read: “Bush’s Gulf War Sells Saudis on Jet Deal Worth $6 Billion.”

* With reference to the jet deal with the Saudis, it is my guess that President Clinton very shrewdly out-negotiated the Arabs by committing us to buy at least $10 billion worth of oil from them for every $6 billion worth of jets they buy from us. This could leave the Saudis with a surplus of $4 billion, which might prove to be a financial disaster for them if the Clinton economic program succeeds in ruining our economy, thereby devastating the value of the dollar.
