Concrete Firm to Settle Back-Pay Case for $11,984
As part of a court settlement, a concrete company has agreed to pay $11,984 in overtime and minimum wages owed to five employees, the U.S. Labor Department said Tuesday.
Clyde D. Thompson, owner of Clyde Thompson Construction in San Juan Capistrano, consented to the judgment issued by a U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.
Employees and federal investigators alleged that the company systematically avoided paying overtime wages by issuing checks for the first 40 hours worked each week and paying cash for any additional hours--but at the standard 40-hour rate instead of the required time-and-a-half rate.
The settlement amount is for back wages for the two years ended June, 1992.
