Cancer Cases Reviewed After Misdiagnoses

BIRMINGHAM, England — Evidence that 42 cancer cases were wrongly diagnosed at one hospital has prompted a review of 1,800 bone cancer cases, health officials said.
Although only one pathologist has been linked to the cases, authorities said other doctors and medical staff could face disciplinary action for not challenging or reporting their colleagues’ errors.
The pathologist accused in the misdiagnoses, Dr. Carol Starkie, had been working for the bone tumor service based at Birmingham’s Royal Orthopedic Hospital.
