Air Cargo Ban a Drag on Economy
* Thank you for your article “Weighty Issue of Cargo Flights at John Wayne,” (Aug. 8), covering the problems for Orange County businesses created by the ban on air cargo at John Wayne Airport. This ban is a major drag on our local economy. More than 13,000 Orange County businesses rely heavily on next-day air deliveries. Because their packages must be trucked to Long Beach to be shipped, they lose an hour or so of prime selling time each day. Giving those businesses that hour--by allowing one cargo flight a day at John Wayne--means more businesses and more jobs for those directly affected and their suppliers and related businesses.
