Mickey Walsh, a prominent figure in American steeplechasing, died of a heart attack at his home in Southern Pines, N.C. He was 86 years old. . . Len Weiner has left his job as program director of all-sports radio station KMPC to “pursue other broadcast interests,” according to Bill West, president of Golden West Properties, which includes the station among its holdings. Weiner’s duties will be assumed by Scott O’Neil, program director for KMPC sister station KLITE-FM. . . . Florian Rousseau became the first Frenchman since 1966 to win the 1,000-meter tempo velodrome event in a world cycling championship event in Norway.
