WORKPLACE ISSUES : Silicon Valley, O.C. Rated as Best-Paying Areas for Secretaries
The best place to be a secretary in California, pay-wise? Silicon Valley, says a new survey, where the average secretary III knocks down $30,400 a year.
The worst place? Sacramento, where he or she has to scrape by on $23,500.
Orange County is near the high end of the list at $27,900. That’s the same as San Francisco, according to consulting firm William M. Mercer Inc., which did the survey.
(A secretary III, by the way, works for one to three managers, according to Mercer’s definition: types, files and does minor administrative work, has a detailed knowledge of the company and has a business or technical vocabulary.)
About two dozen Orange County companies took part in the survey, which Mercer says is the largest salary study in the state.
