Park Service Offers Reward in Shooting
YOSEMITE — The National Park Service offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the assailant who shot and wounded Ranger Kim Aufhauser in Yosemite National Park in mid-July.
Aufhauser, a veteran ranger, was shot three times as he patrolled Tioga Pass Road in the Tuolumne Meadows, a popular backpacking spot about 35 miles from Yosemite Valley.
The search for the gunman continues, said Kris Fister, a park spokeswoman, but investigators have no new leads.
Aufhauser, whose bulletproof vest saved him from severe injury, was shot twice in the chest and once in the leg. He was released from a hospital shortly after the incident but has not returned to work, Fister said.
