PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Short on Receivers, Jett Gets Long Look
While wide receiver Sam Graddy remains unsigned, rookie free agent James Jett has been a surprise for the Raiders in training camp at Oxnard.
Jett, a 5-foot-10 wide receiver from West Virginia, was a 1992 Olympic gold medalist in the 4x100-meter relay. He has a 10.08-second personal-best time in the 100 meters and has displayed hands almost as good as his speed.
“I’m really out there just trying to show them what I got,” Jett said. “We have a couple guys down right now, so I am getting more reps.”
In the morning practice, Jett worked as the third wide receiver with the first team during a hurry-up offensive drill.
Graddy, who won a gold and a silver medal sprinting in the 1984 Olympics, may be close to signing, once an agreement on the length of a contract is met.
Reportedly, Graddy--who caught 10 passes for 205 yards last year before suffering a season-ending arm injury four games into the season--is looking for a longer commitment from the Raiders than their one-year offer.
The Raiders’ wide receiving corps was thin for both practices Friday. Daryl Hobbs, Charles Jordan and Olanda Truitt have minor leg injuries.
