SHRINE ALL-STAR FOOTBALL GAME : Boseman, Carrion Dismissed From South Team
Stais Boseman of Inglewood Morningside and Antonio Carrion of Dorsey, two of the highest-regarded players voted to tonight’s 42nd annual Shrine all-star football game, have been dismissed for disciplinary reasons.
Boseman, a quarterback, and Carrion, a wide receiver, were asked to leave the South team’s camp at Occidental College on Wednesday by Coach Mark Paredes of La Puente Bishop Amat. The players had left camp without permission Tuesday night and did not return until early Wednesday morning.
Boseman said he and Carrion left to visit their girlfriends.
“It was a real strict thing, but I guess that’s how all-star games are run,” said Boseman, headed to USC on a basketball scholarship. “We couldn’t have radios or TVs in our rooms. Most definitely, I felt like I was in boot camp or something.”
Carrion will attend San Diego State in the fall.
Receiver Damond Wilkins of Rialto Eisenhower was added to the South roster, giving the team 30 players.
The North, coached by Butch Cattolico of Los Gatos, has 31.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Long Beach Veterans Stadium. This is the second year in a row the game will be played in Long Beach after years at the Rose Bowl.
Tickets are $10 and available at the gate.
Of the 61 participating seniors, 52 have received scholarships to Division I colleges, among them Notre Dame, USC, UCLA, Stanford, Nebraska and Texas.
