Msgr. Charles Kevin Keane, a Catholic priest whose nearly 40 years of service included lengthy tenures in the San Fernando Valley, has died at his Los Angeles residence. He was 73.

A resident of St. John of God Nursing Home, Keane died Monday of pneumonia, said a representative of St. Charles Borromeo Church in North Hollywood. He was the church’s senior pastor for 11 years before retiring in 1984.

Born in Sligo, Ireland, Keane attended Dominican College in his native country before traveling to the United States in 1939 to continue his education for the priesthood. In America, Keane attended St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo and was ordained on St. Patrick’s Day in 1945.
