Rosenbergsday

Did Howard Rosenberg intentionally choose Bloomsday for his tour of television talk shows (“All Ears, All Day in TV Hell,” June 27)?

As an Irish Jew, I’ve long been fascinated by the idea that one could reconstruct Dublin of 1904 from Leopold Bloom’s wanderings around the city on June 16 of that year. It’s a frightening thought that someone 89 years from now might come to know American television--or America!--from Rosenberg’s wanderings across the stations this past June 16.

The screen’s glimpses of genuine humanity, true emotion and intelligent concern were all too brief. I am grateful for his well-recorded sojourn; now I won’t ever have to wonder whether I could be missing something on those shows.
