Southeast Area : Needy Children to be Given Free Lunches This Summer
Free lunches will be available this summer to children from low-income families in Bell and Huntington Park as part of a federally funded program initiated by Assemblywoman Martha M. Escutia (D-Huntington Park).
The six-week program will be administered by East Los Angeles College. Participants in the California Conservation Corps job-training program will serve the meals.
At least half of the students in Huntington Park and Bell receive free or reduced-price meals during the school year, said Dolores Sanchez, an aide to Escutia.
The summer lunches will be offered daily from noon to 1:30 p.m. beginning Monday at Salt Lake Park, 3401 E. Florence Ave. in Huntington Park, at Bear Park, 6707 Bear Ave. in Bell, and Veteran’s Park, 6526 Wilcox Ave. in Bell.
