Echo Park : Community Invited to Help
The Echo Park Improvement Assn. is holding its next graffiti removal effort on Saturday. Community members are invited to meet at 8:30 a.m. in the city parking lot next to 1160 Glendale Blvd. Volunteers are asked to wear old clothes. The association will provide paint, rollers and brushes. There will be a free pizza lunch provided by Domino’s.
“We find that if we have an environment that has a lot of tagging, criminals feel real comfortable doing drug sales, mugging and loitering. But if we have a clean environment, they don’t feel as comfortable,” said William Nettles, member of the association.
“Tagging is a way for them to test the waters in a neighborhood. If we erase their name, they know they won’t be tolerated in the area. That they could be arrested.”
