HONG KONG — Courts in south China’s Guangdong province on Tuesday sentenced 12 gang members to death for forcing women into prostitution, a China-run news agency reported.
Eighteen other gang members were given sentences ranging from suspended death to five-year imprisonment, the China News Service said without giving details. Suspended death sentences can be converted to life imprisonment with good behavior.
The report said the criminals were part of six gangs that forced or sold women into prostitution. It said sentencing was carried out simultaneously in five cities across Guangdong.
