A 20-year-old woman was raped at gunpoint in Camarillo’s Pleasant Valley Park early Saturday morning, authorities said.
The woman agreed to go to the park with Dale Chester of Oxnard, a 21-year-old acquaintance of hers, about 4:30 a.m., said Camarillo Police Sgt. Jerry Weaver. But at the park, Chester allegedly pulled a gun and attacked her, authorities said.
The woman escaped when a passing vehicle diverted the man’s attention. He threatened to shoot her as she ran to a nearby home for help, according to a Ventura County sheriff’s statement.
Shortly after answering a call for help, deputies arrested Chester on suspicion of rape.
