British Petroleum Sells Purina Mills: The animal feeds unit was sold for $425 million to Sterling Group Inc., a Houston-based private financial group that specializes in leveraged and management buyouts. BP wants to concentrate on its core business, the firm said. Purina Mills, which was owned by St. Louis-based BP Nutrition, is the nation’s biggest maker of animal feeds. BP Nutrition had acquired Purina Mills in 1986 from Ralston Purina Co. for $545 million.
