2 Youths Arrested in School Vandalism

CANOGA PARK — Two teen-age boys were arrested early Saturday on suspicion of painting racist graffiti on a Canoga Park junior high school, police said.
The two 16-year-old youths, whose names were not released, were taken into custody at 4 a.m. after someone saw them at Sutter Junior High School and called police, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Roger Ferguson. Several other youths fled when police arrived, he said.
The group caused an estimated $2,000 worth of damage, Ferguson said.
“They spray-painted walls, trees, telephone poles--whatever they could get their hands on,” he said.
The graffiti included “USA for whites” and slurs against specific ethnic groups, he said.
The boys were released into the custody of their parents, Ferguson said.
