BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJORS : Griffey’s Conduct Is Under Scrutiny
The American League is investigating the conduct of Seattle’s Ken Griffey Jr., who cursed and gestured at Detroit Manager Sparky Anderson after hitting a home run.
In the eighth inning of Seattle’s 9-5 victory Sunday, Griffey hit a three-run homer. While rounding the bases, he looked toward the Tigers’ dugout and touched his crotch, then shouted obscenities at Anderson. Griffey apparently was angry because Detroit had pitched around him during the series. He apologized to Anderson by telephone.

The Cincinnati Reds put third baseman Chris Sabo on the 15-day disabled list because of a ruptured disk in his back.
