Sierra Madre : Utility Tax Hearing Slated

The Sierra Madre City Council will have a public hearing July 6 on its proposed 6% utility tax.
The final vote on the tax is scheduled for July 13, City Administrator James E. McRea said.
City staff has recommended a 6% tax on gas, electricity, water and local telephone bills that would bring in $601,000 a year.
McRea said that under Gov. Pete Wilson’s proposed budget the state will take an additional $515,000 in property taxes and redevelopment funds from the city in 1993/94 to fund public education.
The average household would pay $9.35 a month in new utility taxes, McRea said.
