MR. CAFARO GOES TO COLLEGE: Anyone looking for A&M; Records president and CEO AL Cafaro might want to try the Harvard dormitories. This week Cafaro begins a grueling, two-month International Senior Management Program at Harvard Business School, a course that, according to insiders, makes running a record company seem like a weekend at the Ritz-Carlton.
The military-like training is coming at the request of Alain Levy, CEO of PolyGram, parent company of A&M;, who has an MBA from the School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and is a renowned believer in continuing education for his management team. Cafaro is one of a few key PolyGram worldwide execs enrolled in the program. In his absence, newly promoted senior vice president and general manager Jim Guerinot and finance guru Milt Olin are handling day-to-day operations at A&M.;
