A Glendale man was charged Friday with stabbing to death an acquaintance during a fishing trip in an Imperial County wildlife refuge area, officials said.
Samvel Ketelekyan, 40, faces one count of murder with a special allegation of using a knife, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Donal Donnelly.
Ketelekyan is scheduled to be arraigned June 1 in El Centro Municipal Court. If convicted, the businessman could receive up to 25 years to life in state prison, Donnelly said.
Investigators suspect Ketelekyan was the man who fatally stabbed Albert Mardirossian in the chest and left eye before running the victim over with a car.
During questioning, Ketelekyan admitted going on a fishing trip with Mardirossian May 15 and arguing with him the next morning about whether to return home, said Imperial County Sheriff’s Investigator Mike Leon.
State fish and game officials found the victim lying on a dirt road in the Wister Wildlife area in Niland at 7 a.m. May 16, Leon said.
Ketelekyan remains at Imperial County jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
