Syntex Plans to Lay Off 800 More People: Syntex Corp. officials announced that they will lay off 800 employees this year in addition to the 1,100 job cuts previously announced. Most of the cuts will be from the pharmaceutical company’s administration, marketing and sales departments. Last year, the Palo Alto-based company announced that it was trimming its staff by 1,100 and was closing several plants. In February, the company said it was closing its last U.S. plant located at its headquarters.
