LOS ANGELES : Deputy Pleads No Contest in Drug Delivery to Jail

A sheriff’s deputy accused of bringing heroin into the Biscailuz Center County Jail last month pleaded no contest Tuesday to a felony charge.
Albert Granados, 23, will be sentenced on June 30. Deputy Dist. Atty. Joseph Shidler said the plea was “open,” meaning no deal had been made regarding sentencing. Granados could receive up to four years in prison.
He was arrested last month after a Sheriff’s Department investigation was triggered by an anonymous tip. The informant said that Granados, who worked at the Eastside jail, was selling and delivering cigarettes and narcotics to inmates, Shidler said.
The prosecutor said a cigarette “buy” was set up, and on April 5, Granados sold a carton to an inmate for $200.
He was arrested on the second floor of the jail after a heroin transaction was arranged for 5 a.m. on April 9, Shidler said. Granados picked up $500 and heroin from an undercover narcotics deputy.
Last week, felony narcotics charges were filed in a similar case against another deputy, who was assigned to the Men’s Central Jail.
