ROUND RIVER: From the Journals of Aldo Leopold edited by Luna B. Leopold, illustrated by Charles W. Schwartz (Oxford: $9.95; 173 pp.). Originally published in 1953, these essays and diary entries by the author of “A Sand County Almanac” feature warm descriptions of camping, fishing and hunting in wilds of North America. Leopold celebrates the wilderness, stressing the need to preserve this precious legacy: “Conversation is a state of harmony between men and land . . . the land is one organism. Its parts, like our own parts, compete with each other and cooperate with each other.”
