Gas Tanker Explodes at Vandenberg Gate
VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE — A gasoline tanker exploded Tuesday at the main gate of the base here, sending flames 100 feet into the air and causing minor injuries to at least two people.
Base spokeswoman Lt. Amy Rogerson said the explosion occurred when a gas tanker headed for an on-base service station struck a utility pole at the entrance on California 1 and Lompoc-Casmalia Road.
No structures were damaged. Base firefighters were letting the tanker burn itself out to avoid a hazardous chemical spill, Rogerson said.
The identities of those injured were not immediately known, Rogerson said.
