VENTURA : Insurance Agent Is Indicted in Scheme
A Ventura insurance agent has been indicted by the county grand jury on charges of burglary and grand theft relating to a scheme to swindle more than $71,000 from a partly disabled Ventura woman, the district attorney said Tuesday.
Terry J. Alderete persuaded the 64-year-old woman to give him $71,793 for an insurance annuity, but Alderete deposited the money into his personal account and never purchased the annuity, the indictment alleges.
Alderete, who could not be reached for comment Tuesday, remains free on bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in county Superior Court.
He faces up to seven years and eight months in state prison if convicted.
