LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Welfare Rolls Increase for 49th Month in Row
Los Angeles County welfare rolls increased 2.1% in March compared to the previous month, marking the 49th consecutive monthly increase, an official said Tuesday.
The Department of Public Social Services aided 1,669,406 people in March, an increase of 33,538 from February levels. County welfare rolls have not fallen since February, 1989.
The number of applications taken from people seeking public assistance during March soared by more than 21%--from 68,514 applications in February to 83,432 in March.
