Marion Merrell to Buy Generic Drug Group: Prescription drugs maker Marion Merrell Dow Inc. said it agreed to acquire the generic drug business of Rugby-Darby Group Cos. for an undisclosed price. Fred Lyons, chief executive at Marion Merrell, announced the acquisition during the company’s annual meeting. “We are taking a strategic step to further position Marion Merrell Dow for the future,” Lyons said. Rugby’s product line includes generic versions of many of the country’s top-selling prescription pharmaceuticals, Marion Merrell said.
