Gillespie Honors: Jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, who died in January, was posthumously awarded one of the world’s most valuable musical prizes by the King of Sweden Tuesday. Gillespie and Polish composer Witold Lutoslawski were joint winners of the 1993 Polar Music Prize, receiving $135,000 each. King Carl XVI Gustaf handed the prizes to Gillespie’s colleague Wynton Marsalis and to 80-year-old Lutoslawski in Stockholm.
