Burroughs Losing Another Coach

Continuing the shake-up in the Burroughs High athletic department, baseball Coach Terry Scott, who led the Indians to one of the best regular seasons in school history, said on Monday that he will step down after his team’s final Southern Section playoff game.

“It’s been a lot of fun, and I’m going to miss it, but I want to be a normal person and spend more time with my family,” Scott said. “I’m going to like being the guy in the stands doing the yelling for a change.”

Scott, 49, said he will remain a health teacher at the school. Scott said his decision is unrelated to recent coaching changes at Burroughs.

Jay Gudzin, co-coach of the football team, was fired on May 10 by Principal Tim Buchanan. The following day, Athletic Director Marty Garrison, Gudzin’s co-coach, announced that he would not return to the team next season.

Scott is 30-64 during his four-year tenure at Burroughs, which has not been among the traditional area powers. The Indians enjoyed a surprising second-place finish in the Foothill League this season.

Burroughs (13-12) will meet Valencia High in Placentia in its opening round Division II playoff game on Friday.
