Brown’s Goal in Third Period Lifts Blues, Forces a Seventh Game

ST. LOUIS — Jeff Brown scored on a power play midway through the third period Thursday night as the St. Louis Blues rallied to force a seventh game in the Norris Division finals with a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Maple Leafs shut out the Blues for the first two periods, outshot them, 41-27, and appeared to have the game under control despite leading only 1-0. But Dave Lowry tied it when he redirected a pass from Brett Hull at 3:33 and Brown deflected Nelson Emerson’s shot from the point at 8:46, ending the Blues’ two-for-21 slump with a manpower advantage.
Toronto goaltender Felix Potvin appeared to be screened on the winner--Brown’s third goal of the playoffs--as St. Louis left wing Brendan Shanahan went flying past the crease.
Game 7 is Saturday night at Toronto, with the winner to play the Kings in the Campbell Conference finals.
