PLACENTIA : Council OKs $5,000 Grant for Chamber
- Share via
The City Council has approved an emergency $5,000 grant to the Chamber of Commerce, two weeks after denying a $20,000 request from the organization.
The council last week voted 3 to 2 to give the chamber the onetime grant. Councilmen Norman Z. Eckenrode and John O. Tynes cast the dissenting votes.
The chamber first approached the city in March, saying it needed $20,000 to pay bills and continue its fund raising. At that time, the council voted to file the chamber’s request, essentially denying the request. But last week Mayor Maria Moreno asked the council to consider a scaled-down contribution. Moreno called the grant an investment in the business community that will generate more revenue.
