Maria Tolstoy, 85, a poet and professor and granddaughter of novelist Leo Tolstoy. Ms. Tolstoy fled her native Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution when she was 17. She settled in Czechoslovakia but fled to America in 1939 to escape the Nazis. Ms. Tolstoy taught Russian at Cornell, Columbia and Indiana universities, the University of Michigan and Hunter College. On Monday in New York.
