AGOURA HILLS — A man arrested after his car hit and killed a Los Feliz woman waiting for roadside help on the Ventura Freeway in Agoura Hills is suspected of drunk driving, California Highway Patrol officers said Thursday.
Owen Kelchner Jones, 59, of Agoura was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol after the Wednesday afternoon accident, CHP Sgt. James Kennedy said.
Jones veered off the westbound side of the freeway, striking Kathryn (Kami) Montgomery and killing her, officers said. Montgomery, 30, had pulled her Volkswagen off the freeway and was waiting for help near a call box.
Officers at the scene gave Jones a field sobriety test, Kennedy said. When officers found “objective symptoms of intoxication,” they requested a blood test for alcohol levels from Jones. Results of the blood test will not be available for several days, Kennedy said.
