Toshiba Cuts Personal Computer Prices
IRVINE — Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., responding to stiff competition in the personal computer market, said Monday that it was cutting the prices of its business and professional notebooks and advanced portable computers.
Toshiba’s Computer Systems Division, based in Irvine, cut prices as much as 17% on its T6400 advanced portable computers. For example, the price of its top-of-the-line, T6400MM/200 portable computer was cut to $7,999 from $9,599.
Toshiba also cut the price of its T4500 family of business and professional notebooks up to 14%. The price of the T4500C/120 notebook was cut to $3,799, from $4,399.
The price reductions took effect Saturday.
“There has been a personal computer (price) war for quite some time, and this is mostly competitive pressures,” said Bob Maples, a Toshiba spokesman. The price cuts follow reductions that Compaq Computer made about three weeks ago, he said.
The price cut is the division’s first this year. In December, it cut prices up to 17% on certain Satellite notebook computers and T6400 portable computers.
