BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Clubhouse Policy Clarified

The Dodgers reviewed Major League Baseball’s clubhouse security measures with the players Wednesday and followed it up by issuing a memo that spelled out baseball’s policy of who is allowed in the clubhouse.

This comes on the heels of negative publicity generated when Rodney G. King was a guest of Eric Davis and Darryl Strawberry in the clubhouse during the team’s last home stand. The Dodgers say they have wanted to tighten clubhouse security for some time, but privately, employees are saying the edict was in part prompted by King being in the clubhouse.

The memo states that only the “immediate family of the Dodgers’ manager, players and coaches, specifically fathers, brothers and sons will be admitted to the Dodger clubhouse during times established by the Dodger manager.”

Tim Wallach, who made two errors in Wednesday night’s game, said that he simply misplayed both balls. Montreal scored its only run on an error by Wallach, who has made four errors in 21 games this season after making only 15 in 150 games last season. “I’ll be all right,” Wallach said, smiling. . . . Kevin Elster, who threw from shortstop for 30 minutes Wednesday, said his shoulder felt fine.
