BREA : Firm Hired to Design Community Center
The City Council has selected the architectural firm of Leason Pomeroy & Associates to design the proposed community center.
By unanimous vote, the council on Tuesday picked the Irvine-based company to undertake master planning, construction drawings and interior design for the $6.5-million project.
The firm will be paid $425,000. The Redevelopment Agency is funding the project.
Jim Cutts, director of community development, said that the design phase will take about 10 months. Construction of the project is likely to go out for bid in April, 1994, he said.
Construction of the 55,000-square-foot structure at the corner of Randolph Avenue and Madison Way will take another year, Cutts said.
Officials said the center is expected to pay for itself. The city hired a consultant, Sports Management Group, to study how the center can generate income.
Among the facilities being considered are a gymnasium, a meeting room, a youth area, an arts and crafts room, a kitchen, banquet rooms and space for family activities.
