Los Angeles : Vote on School Calendar
Want to change that new school calendar that has proven so unpalatable to many Westside families?
The school board is scheduled to vote May 3 on a proposed calendar for next year, and people wishing to comment may do so at meetings Monday at 5 p.m. or May 3 at 2 p.m. at school district headquarters, 450 N. Grand Ave. Those wishing to speak must call (213) 625-6273.
San Fernando Valley board member Julie Korenstein has proposed a return to the traditional September-June calendar for schools currently on a single track, while Westside board member Mark Slavkin has moved that neighborhood school complexes select the school calendar that best suits their needs.
If both fail, Westside schools--most of which are on a single track--would operate Aug. 16 through Dec. 17, and from Feb. 16 through June 30, with a 42-day winter vacation.
