Los Angeles Mayor’s Race
In your editorial (“Ethnic Politicking: Cool It, Please,” April 9) you write about Richard Riordan, who responded to some nitwit’s comment that “Black people are just awful. Don’t you think so?” by saying, “Some of them.”
I hold no brief for Riordan; indeed, to use a remark quoted in the editorial, I would never vote for “an old, rich, white Republican.” But who can deny that “some” black people are awful (or worse)? As are some white, yellow or red people. If we had purple polka-dotted people, no doubt some of them would be awful too.
Surely there must be something more substantive that can be said about, for or against, Riordan.
